Blue Beetle test footage hits the web

From Comic-Con, comes the complete first look at BB's tentative TV series, which given the recent Twitter announcement by Geoff Johns that he'll be including both Booster Gold and Blue Beetle (specifically the Jaime version) in the upcoming tenth season of "Smallville," could be linked with one of DC's other major live action series in some capacity.

So far the trailer looks pretty sharp and the actor playing Jaime gives off the warm and optimistic vibe established by Keith Giffen, John Rogers and Cully Hamner's ongoing. The cancellation of the BB solo series was a huge bummer, so it'll be crucial for fans that a TV series nails not only the action, but also the familial elements of the comic that made it so endearing.

Darkseid to Smallville for final season

He’s been rumored as the bad guy for at least two years now, but as the tenth and final season of Smallville prepares to debut, it’s been confirmed: Clark Kent will be facing off against Darkseid.

Confirmation came at Comic-Con International 2010, where it was also confirmed that John Schneider will return for the show’s 200th episode. Also returning for the final season blowout: Supergirl and the JSA. Of course, if Smallville‘s Darkseid is anything like the comic version, Clark will need all the help he can get to make it to the end of the series…

Zack Snyder's "Sucker Punch"

The first official trailer for director Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch has gone online and, well, wow. Filled with 1960s drama, eye-popping neon brothels, enormous samurai robot things and young women armed to the teeth and ready for battle, it’s pretty hard to nail the film down to any one genre — though describing it as a crazy bad-ass mind-warping action flick seems like a good place to start.

Check out the trailer below.

Marvel Anime exclusive to G4

Collider is reporting that Four brand new Iron Man, Blade, Wolverine, and X-Men series will all appear on the G4 TV network in the U.S. in 2011, according to a press release they received.

According to information Collider gathered that Warren Ellis wrote 12 different 30-minute episodes based off of various storylines already in existence that were intended for the south east Asian market. According to Ellis, "will either be dubbed or subtitled." They are being made by Madhouse in Japan, and it will be in anime style.

Ellis seems to be happy that they are going to see release here in the U.S.

"As I say, these were commissioned and created specifically for the south east Asian market. But it’s nice that they’ll get some form of English-language airing too."

"Because I knew the process in advance, the outlines were really just plot, pacing and colour. I imagine and expect that I’ve been seriously rewritten in places by the actual writers, which is fine and all part of the process."

Below is the full press release that Collider received:

G4 will be the exclusive U.S. television home of four brand-new anime series featuring some of the most successful and iconic brands from the Marvel Universe. Produced by Madhouse for Marvel Entertainment and Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan (SPEJ), these four original series – “Iron Man,” “X-MEN,” “Wolverine” and “Blade” – will premiere on the network in 2011 and will air as standalone series made up of twelve 30-minute episodes under the guidance of Warren Ellis.

“Iron Man” In an effort to make amends for his weapons manufacturing past, Tony Stark has dedicated himself to building the world up rather than tearing it down. Traveling to Japan to build a new arc reactor that will deliver unlimited free energy to the Japanese people, Stark is challenged by the Japanese government and the media when he attempts to import the necessary nuclear priming device. And when the reactor-in-construction is repeatedly attacked by the mysterious Zodiac consortium, Stark must gather his allies to take on Zodiac and its mastermind.

“X-MEN” The X-MEN are reunited following the death of a teammate, and are summoned by Charles Xavier to Japan following the abduction of Hisako Ichiki (Armor). There, they confront the U-MEN, a lunatic cult that steals and transplants mutant organs to further strengthen their own army, and the battle for justice is on.

“Wolverine” Based on the popular graphic novel by Frank Miller, the series begins in Japan, where Logan is challenged by Shingen Yashida, the notorious leader of a powerful mafia clan. When Shingen’s employee Yukio, a female assassin, falls out of Shingen’s favor, she must kill him or be killed. Teaming up with Logan, the pair seek out the villain to exact their revenge.

“Blade” Eric Brooks — known as Blade — seeks revenge on Deacon Frost, the vampire lord who killed his mother while she was still pregnant with Eric. With all the powers of a vampire and none of their weaknesses, Blade’s quest leads him throughout Southeast Asia in search of Frost, and, in Viet Nam, he discovers a vampire plot that threatens to take down the whole world.

Brightest day teaser

"Sometimes the light reveals the darkest secrets."

That's what the newest in the line of teaser posters from DC Comics says. Previous posters have hinted at deaths, rebirths, the passing of mantles and the destruction of worlds.

This one shows White Lantern Hal Jordan in the ruins of the White Power Battery, the new Aqualad standing near a distraught Mera, who is looking at the once-again-corpse-ified body of Aquaman, Hawk and Dove holding a limp Jade, and Martian Manhunter stoking a fire

Mary-Louise Parker in Red Poster

All week long we've been posting new character banners for Summit Entertainment's graphic novel adaptation Red (view previous ones) and now we have the last two featuring Mary-Louise Parker.

In the October 15 release, Frank (Bruce Willis), Joe (Morgan Freeman), Marvin (John Malkovich) and Victoria (Helen Mirren) used to be the CIA's top agents – but the secrets they know just made them the Agency's top targets. Now framed for assassination, they must use all of their collective cunning, experience and teamwork to stay one step ahead of their deadly pursuers and stay alive. To stop the operation, the team embarks on an impossible, cross-country mission to break into the top-secret CIA headquarters, where they will uncover one of the biggest conspiracies and cover-ups in government history.

New Gatchaman Teaser trailer

Imagi has released a new teaser trailer for their upcoming Gatchaman movie, or as they were called here in the states when I was growing up, G-Force.

'Gatchaman' is based on the successful Japanese franchise created in the early 1970s by anime pioneer Tatsuo Yoshida. Aired in the U.S. as 'Battle of the Planets' and 'GForce', the TV series soon became one of the top syndicated shows.

This movie was place in limbo after the studio had suffered some financial difficulties, but seems to be back on track and now scheduled for a 2011 release. Gatchaman is a big, effects-rich movie set in a future world grappling with environmental and technological issues. The story focuses on five reluctant heroes whose remarkable genetic code makes them Earth’s only hope of defeating extraterrestrial invaders.

Kevin Munroe ('TMNT') is the director of Gatchaman, being produced by Lynne Southerland. Paul Dini has been signed to collaborate on the screenplay.

Walking Dead Cast revealed

The series, due to start in October on cable channel AMC, stars Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes. After years of slow development, the series went into overdrive when producer Frank Darabont brought the show to AMC. Shortly after giving the okay to a pilot directed by the producer, the channel ordered five additional episodes for a six episode season. Darabont previously reported the first season will cover material prior to Grimes's arrival at the prison, suggesting the first season will be based on the first six-to-twelve issues of the series.

Creator Robert Kirkman is involved in the series and previously discussed returning to the early parts of the story. "It's interesting because they're not characters that I'm writing very much any more. I'm working on the book every month, but most of the people on the show are dead in the comic. Spoiler alert!" he said to AMC's official blog for the show. "So it's a different experience, and there are a lot of cool twists that are going to make the show entertaining for people who have read the comic. As far as me writing the stuff, it's really cool to go back and play with these characters again that I haven't been able to write in a while."

The show will have a sizeable presence at Comic-Con International: San Diego next week. Plans include an hour long panel featuring the show's stars, limited edition posters and buttons, autograph sessions, and Walkers roaming the convention center.

Though a final airdate has not been announced, the program will air in October during their annual Fearfest marathon of horror films.

Ubisoft is looking to expand the Assassin’s Creed universe into the realm of comics. The company is planning on revealing details during a San Diego Comic Con panel.

Jonah Hex animated short

The JONAH HEX movie might not have done that well, but fans will get to see another take on the weird gunslinger with this animated short attached to the BATMAN: UNDER THE RED HOOD DVD that’s coming out in a few weeks. It’s looking like it’s drawing a little more directly from the comics, with talent involved whose names should be familiar to any serious JONAH HEX fan. John R. Lanslade (he of TWO GUN MOJO & RIDERS OF THE WORM AND SUCH) wrote the script off an original story cooked up by Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray. Josh Brolin ain't... er... isn’t actually voicing Hex for this. Instead, it’s Thomas “ The Punisher” Jane. He’ll be joined by soft-spoken tough guy Michael Rooker (who just announced he’ll be in the WALKING DEAD TV show,) Linda “The Original Sarah Connor” Hamilton and Michelle “ Buffy’s lil’ sister, Dawn” Trachtenburg.

I think that’s enough to bring y’all up to speed about this. Why don’t you enjoy this clip from MTV below?

Darth Vader Banned from Star Wars convention

With Star Wars Celebration V drawing near with literally a month away this little tidbit makes its way in the news.

The actor behind the mask of Darth Vader has been banned from the Star Wars Celebration V convention and any other Lucasfilm-associated events, he said on his site:

"It is with regret that I have been informed by my friends at C2 Ventures, Ben and Phillip, that I am not to be invited to C5 this year or any other Lucas Film associated events. After enquiring, the only thing I have been told is that I have 'burnt too many bridges between Lucas Film and myself' - no other reason given...I have also been advised by the promoter of Paris Manga in September that LFL (Lucas Film Limited) have requested no photo opportunities with the 501 Squadron, even though I am commander in chief of the 501"
There is a lot of speculation online about what "burnt too many bridges" means, but no one seems to know and Lucas and Prowse aren't saying. If we find out more, we'll let you know.

NSFW: The Pro comic gets animated

Jimmy Palmiotti talked about this when he was on the Comics on Comics panel at the Long Beach Comic Con. See, he, Amanda Conner and Garth Ennis put out a one-shot called THE PRO at Image in ’02 that people are still talking about it. It was about a filthy, foul-mouthed hooker who suddenly gains super-powers and gets recruited by a thinly-veiled parody of the Justice League. To put it mildly, her membership with this team doesn’t work out well.

Anyway, I remember Jimmy saying at the panel that there was a cartoon based on the comic that was in development at one point. He couldn’t show it at the time, because of legal reasons, but he really, really wished he could because he was so pleased with how it turned out. Apparently, whatever barrier that was blocking him before has been lifted and he’s gotten to post the demo reel of the cartoon on his Youtube channel (and thanks to Bleeding Cool for the heads up.)

WARNING - - FOR MATURE VIEWERS ONLY. This clip is definitely R-Rated, it's definitely is for adults only and you definitely shouldn’t watch it at work…

This eight minute preview seems to be slated more for a motion comic than animation but none the less it holds true to the comic, check it out here.

Wow… they didn’t pull a single punch for this. I’d like to know who the voice actors were, because this cast totally got the kind of delivery they needed for the material. And Titmouse made this! Kick ass! I’ve been to their studios a bunch of times for the monthly Comic Book Sunday! event. They’ve produced lots of other rad , adult-oriented cartoons like METALOCALYPSE and GI JOE RESOLUTE.

Man, this series probably would’ve been too intense, even for Adult Swim. Would you maniacs like to this series to get picked up? Or maybe even see another Ennis comic like THE BOYS get this kind of treatment?
