Suckerpunch animation movie clip

Warner Bros. has released "Distant Planet", another animation for Zack Snyder's upcoming fantasy action film Sucker Punch.

Presenting animated shorts inspired by Zack Snyder's new film, Sucker Punch. Director Zack Snyder and animator Ben Hibon collaborated with Comflix Studios to further explore the fantasy worlds in the film. The animated shorts provide a distinct glimpse into those surreal places, allowing people to experience the worlds in a very unique way. "It made sense to me to not only approach the worlds from an original direction in terms of story and focus," says Snyder, "but also to really push the visual style in a different direction as well. Having seen his contribution to the latest Harry Potter film and looking at some of his other recent work, Ben's talent was obvious and his aesthetic felt like a perfect fit. His work is graphic and visually arresting." Hibon relished an opportunity to expand upon Snyder's unique vision. "Zack is one of the most exciting and original directors working in Hollywood today. Sucker Punch is nothing short of pure visual madness." DISTANT PLANET: In Sucker Punch, the girls find themselves on another planet battling a robot militia on a hijacked train. In "Distant Planet" events unfold from the perspective of the robot hijackers leading up to the girls' arrival. Sometimes those with less have more to fight for...

Kevin Costner as Pa Kent

It’s now official, Kevin Costner, who built a shrine to baseball in a Midwestern corn field in Field of Dreams, will play another rock-ribbed Midwestern hero, Jonathan Kent in Zack Snyder’s Superman: Man of Steel, which is due to debut in theaters on in December of 2012.

Snyder told Entertainment Weekly, “Jonathan Kent is the only father figure Clark has ever had, the man who was there to help Clark understand what he was meant to do in the world as Superman. Kevin will be able to communicate the quiet strength of this rural American man who raised the greatest superhero of all time.”

The Legend of Korra

If you are like me and was sorely disappointed at how poorly The Last Airbender film, directed by M. Night Shyamalan represented the animated show, then buck up because a sequel to the hit television series is in the works. The original series garnered 5.6 million viewers, was nominated and won awards from the Annual Annie Awards, the Genesis Awards, the primetime Emmy awards and a Peabody Award chronicled how Aang The Avatar, and his group of friends setting out to help him master the four elements so he can save the world from the evil Fire Lord Ozai and end the war with the fire nation.

The new series, titled The Last Airbender: Legend of Korra, was announced last summer at San Diego Comic Con by series creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. It explains how Korra, a teenage girl from the southern water tribe has become the new Avatar and must learn airbending from Tenzin, the son of Aang and Katara. The series is set 70 years in the future and contains a stellar voice cast which was released last week, including:

KORRA voiced by Janet Varney
JINORA voiced by Kiernan Shipka
HIROSHI SATO voiced by Daniel Dae Kim
MAKO voiced by David Faustino
ASAMI voiced by Seychelle Gabriel
LIEUTENANT voiced by Lance Henriksen
BOLIN voiced by P.J. Byrne
TENZIN voiced by JK Simmons

Dante Basco, who lent his voice to Prince Zuko confirmed his return, via twitter stating that he will be giving voice to a different character related to Zuko in some way. The Legend of Korra is slated to be a mini-series originally at 12 episodes, but Nickelodeon ordered an additional 14 bringing that total up to 26. To me this shows how much faith they have in the new series to wash the bad taste of the film from the mouths of all the fans. The animation style is apparently the same as we get a look at the protagonist in action and is scheduled to begin airing on Nickelodeon in early 2012. The official synopsis of the show is below:

“The Legend of Korra” takes place 70 years after the events of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” and follows the adventures of the Avatar after Aang – a passionate, rebellious, and fearless teenage girl from the Southern Water Tribe named Korra (voice of Janet Varney).

With three of the four elements under her belt (Earth, Water, and Fire), Korra seeks to master the final element, Air. Her quest leads her to the epicenter of the modern “Avatar” world, Republic City – a metropolis that is fueled by steampunk technology. It is a virtual melting pot where benders and non-benders from all nations live and thrive.

However, Korra discovers that Republic City is plagued by crime as well as a growing anti-bending revolution that threatens to rip it apart. Under the tutelage of Aang’s son, Tenzin (JK Simmons), Korra begins her airbending training while dealing with the dangers at large.

First look at Wonder Woman

So the first images of Adrianne Palicki as Wonder Woman are flying around the web, and I must say “me likes”. The full body shot showcases the outfit that should be appearing in the pilot episode in production by NBC. Of course some alterations were made, first off no hot pants. Not sure I completely support this idea but if you take a look at the image you’ll see why I can get behind this one. *Hit the jump for the first look.

The alterations shouldn’t come as a surprise as David E. Kelley, who has been helmed to direct the pilot, has made it clear fans shouldn’t expect a copy of Lynda Carters uniform from the live action television series of the 70’s. The costume actually takes a page from superstar artist Jim Lee’s redesign introduced in “Wonder Woman #600”

The series pilot is described as a reinvention of the iconic DC Comics character and the synopsis goes: Wonder Woman — a.k.a. Diana Prince — is a vigilante crime fighter in Los Angeles but also a successful corporate executive and a modern woman trying to balance all of the elements of her extraordinary life. Kelley and Bill D’Elia (Boston Legal, The Practice) are the executive producers. The pilot was written by Kelley and will be directed by Jeffrey Reiner (NBC’s The Event). Wonder Woman is from David E. Kelley Productions and Warner Bros. Television. “Wonder Woman” also stars Elizabeth Hurley, Carry Elwes, Tracie Thoms and Pedro Pascal.

Conan theatrical poster

Lionsgate Entertainment has released the official one-sheet for the upcoming remake directed by Marcus Nispel; which is in the same vein as last week's motion poster. The fantasy action adventure is scheduled for 3D theatrical release on August 19th, 2011.

The most legendary Barbarian of all time is back this Summer. Having thrived and evolved for eight consecutive decades in the public imagination - in prose and graphics, on the big screen and small, in games and properties of all kinds - Conan’s exploits in the Hyborian Age now come alive like never before in a colossal 3D action-adventure film.

Conan the Barbarian stars Jason Mamoa as the titular hero, a Cimmerian warrior who vows vengeance upon the nefarious Khalar Singh (Stephen Lang) following the murder of his parents. Ron Perlman co-stars as Conan's father Corin, while Rachel Nichols plays the lead female character Tamara and Rose McGowan occupies the role of an evil witch; also starring Bob Sapp, Leo Howard and Said Taghmaoui.

X-Men Anime Trailer

The storyline for the series was created by noted comic book scribe Warren Ellis and appears to be heavily influenced from the Grant Morrison New X-Men run as well as Joss Whedon’s two year stint on Astonishing X-Men. The series takes place one year after the death of Jean Grey and the dissolution of the team.

If you read comic books then this series might interest you even more since the anime will be loosely based on the first arc of the 2004's Astonishing X-Men series. The anime will begin on April 1st and will be broadcast on G4TV later this year. Any of you interested in this anime adaptation?

The Infinite...a Kirkman/Liefield collaboration

Image Comics partner and The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman is teaming up with artist and Image co-founder Rob Liefeld for a new sci-fi series titled The Infinite, as first reported in USA Today.

The premise sees a soldier from a post-apocalyptic future traveling in the past to team up with his 19-year-old self to defeat world-conquering enemies, the titular "Infinite." USA Today reports that the series is set to start in early August, and two issues are already in the can. The series wil be released through Kirkman's Image imprint Skybound.

This isn't the first time a Kirkman/Liefeld collaboration has been announced — back in 2007, plans were made public for the duo to collaborate on a Killraven series for Marvel Comics, but the comic has yet to be scheduled, though Liefeld has said four issues have been turned in to the publisher. They're also both contributing to miniseries Image United, which has been plagued by delays.
