If you are like me and was sorely disappointed at how poorly The Last Airbender film, directed by M. Night Shyamalan represented the animated show, then buck up because a sequel to the hit television series is in the works. The original series garnered 5.6 million viewers, was nominated and won awards from the Annual Annie Awards, the Genesis Awards, the primetime Emmy awards and a Peabody Award chronicled how Aang The Avatar, and his group of friends setting out to help him master the four elements so he can save the world from the evil Fire Lord Ozai and end the war with the fire nation.
The new series, titled The Last Airbender: Legend of Korra, was announced last summer at San Diego Comic Con by series creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. It explains how Korra, a teenage girl from the southern water tribe has become the new Avatar and must learn airbending from Tenzin, the son of Aang and Katara. The series is set 70 years in the future and contains a stellar voice cast which was released last week, including:

Dante Basco, who lent his voice to Prince Zuko confirmed his return, via twitter stating that he will be giving voice to a different character related to Zuko in some way. The Legend of Korra is slated to be a mini-series originally at 12 episodes, but Nickelodeon ordered an additional 14 bringing that total up to 26. To me this shows how much faith they have in the new series to wash the bad taste of the film from the mouths of all the fans. The animation style is apparently the same as we get a look at the protagonist in action and is scheduled to begin airing on Nickelodeon in early 2012. The official synopsis of the show is below:
“The Legend of Korra” takes place 70 years after the events of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” and follows the adventures of the Avatar after Aang – a passionate, rebellious, and fearless teenage girl from the Southern Water Tribe named Korra (voice of Janet Varney).
With three of the four elements under her belt (Earth, Water, and Fire), Korra seeks to master the final element, Air. Her quest leads her to the epicenter of the modern “Avatar” world, Republic City – a metropolis that is fueled by steampunk technology. It is a virtual melting pot where benders and non-benders from all nations live and thrive.
However, Korra discovers that Republic City is plagued by crime as well as a growing anti-bending revolution that threatens to rip it apart. Under the tutelage of Aang’s son, Tenzin (JK Simmons), Korra begins her airbending training while dealing with the dangers at large.
So the first images of Adrianne Palicki as Wonder Woman are flying around the web, and I must say “me likes”. The full body shot showcases the outfit that should be appearing in the pilot episode in production by NBC. Of course some alterations were made, first off no hot pants. Not sure I completely support this idea but if you take a look at the image you’ll see why I can get behind this one. *Hit the jump for the first look.
The alterations shouldn’t come as a surprise as David E. Kelley, who has been helmed to direct the pilot, has made it clear fans shouldn’t expect a copy of Lynda Carters uniform from the live action television series of the 70’s. The costume actually takes a page from superstar artist Jim Lee’s redesign introduced in “Wonder Woman #600”

McFarlane Toys has announced two separate licensing deals to create figures based on The Walking Dead. The first agreement is with AMC to create action figures based on the TV series that debuted last Halloween, while the second is with Robert Kirkman, creator of the original The Walking Dead comic book. In 2011 McFarlane Toys will produce two four-figure series of The Walking Dead figures, one based on each license. Both series will debut in the fall, which individual figures likely to sell for $14.99 at retail.
The Walking Dead Series 1, which is due out in September, will be based on Kirkman’s Image Comics series and will include highly-detailed six-inch action figures of Officer Rick Grimes, Michonne, Zombie Lurker, and Zombie Roamer.
The Walking Dead Series 2, which will hit retail in November, is based on the AMC series and will include Deputy Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon, Zombie Walker, and Zombie Biter.
Each figure in both series will include interchangeable accessories, and multiple points of articulation. The zombie figure feature unique gory play action effects such as exploding heads and removable limbs.
It looks like 'The Cape' might be hanging up it's cape...
NBC is reducing their order of 13 episodes to only 10 episodes because of the series low ratings. The show isn't canceled but it still either way it doesn't look good for the cape crusader.
Entertainment Weekly is reporting that NBC has picked up David E. Kelley's new "Wonder Woman" pilot after all! The network was the final one to pass on the show over a week ago, but that was before the new regime headed by chairman Robert Greenblatt was officially in place in light of the impending Comcast takeover. The magazine reports:
One factor that seemed to have sunk the Wonder Woman project the first time around was the price of rebooting the series, with the studio requiring a rich license fee to bring the iconic character back to life. But then, NBC has been down this road before: It rebooted Bionic Woman. Kelley’s take incorporated the superhero’s signature lasso, cuffs, and plane in the script, and insiders said it was a serious, non-campy take on the DC Comics character.
Now the big question is who should play Wonder Woman?
Seems like Syfy is joining the fray and getting there own superhero tv series about ordinary citizens who gain extraordinary abilities called Alphas. Syfy was impressed by the 90 minute pilot, because Alphas just got the green light for 11 episodes in addition to that 90-minute pilot. Here's how an earlier Syfy press release described the series:
Alphas follows a team of ordinary citizens whose brain anomalies imbue them with extraordinary mental and physical abilities. Taking the law into their own hands, the unlikely team, led by Dr. Lee Rosen (David Strathairn) investigates cases that suggest other Alpha activity to uncover what the CIA, FBI and Pentagon have not been able or willing to solve. These gifted individuals must balance their quirky personalities and disparate backgrounds with their not always visible powers as they work to solve crimes, stop the ticking time bomb and catch the enemy.
According to The Hollywood Reporter:
David Strathairn (Good Night and Good Luck) headlines the cast which also includes Warren Christie, Malik Yoba, Laura Mennell, Ryan Cartwright and Azita Ghanizada. Callum Keith Rennie (Battlestar Galactica) guest stars in the pilot. Filming will begin early next year in Toronto, and the series will debut next summer.

THR is reporting that AMC isn't likely to launch the 13-episode second season until next October because of Fearfest. AMC's annual horror movie marathon served as a perfect promotional platform to ramp up interest for The Walking Dead, which also took advantage of the higher audience levels during the fall.
A new promo for NBC's "The Cape," has hit the 'net for the two-hour premiere episode on Sunday, January 9th, 2011. New episodes start on Monday, January 17th, 2011.
"The Cape" is a one-hour drama series starring David Lyons ("ER") as Vince Faraday, an honest cop on a corrupt police force, who finds himself framed for a series of murders and presumed dead. He is forced into hiding, leaving behind his wife, Dana (Jennifer Ferrin, "Life on Mars") and son, Trip (Ryan Wynott, "Flash Forward"). AMC has announced the renewal of The Walking Dead for a 13-episode second season. Since debuting on Oct. 31, The Walking Dead has broken ratings records, with the series reaching more Adults 18-49 than any other show in the history of cable television.
The announcement also includes Fox International Channels' (FIC) global renewal for a second season, following record-breaking premiere ratings in 120 countries in Europe, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East. The Walking Dead was the highest-rated original series premiere ever to air on FIC simultaneously worldwide.
"The Dead has spread!" said Charlie Collier, President, AMC. "No other cable series has ever attracted as many Adults 18-49 as The Walking Dead. This reaffirms viewers' hunger for premium television on basic cable. We are so proud to be bringing back The Dead again, across the globe."

AMC knows a lot of us can't wait for the premiere of "The Walking Dead" so they have released a five minute video of the first episode. The series is set to premiere this Sunday, October 31st.
As if the return of Misha Collins as Castiel in tonight’s episode of Supernatural weren’t enough, a new trailer has appeared online for the Madhouse-produced Supernatural: The Animation. And it’s set to the tune of Kansas’ “Carry on My Wayward Son.”
Announced in early June, the 22-episode adaptation will cover the first season of the live-action series, remaking some episodes while also introducing original stories. Originally set to debut in January, Supernatural: The Animation will now be released on Blu-ray and DVD in Japan in three volumes beginning in February.
Supernatural, which began its sixth season last month, stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles as Sam and Dean Winchester, brothers who hunt demons and other paranormal creatures.
Iron Man is a pretty good fit for anime, if you think about it: a brilliant, arrogant playboy billionaire who dons a mechanical suit often to fight other mechanical suited menaces in explosive mechanical battles over glittering cityscapes. Madhouse's "Iron Man" anime is heading to G4 in 2011, but it launches this month in Japan, and the Japanese opening sequence has hit the net, showcasing the show's blend of traditional and CGI animation styles and its distinctly anime twist on the Tony Stark you know and love/hate. The opening for the Madhouse produced Iron Man anime adaptation has now surfaced on YouTube. The credits mention Joe Quesada, Stan Lee, Alan Fine, Jeph Loeb and Dan Buckley but do not mention either Takeshi Koike or Warren Ellis, two key staff members that were previously announced to be attached to the project. The Iron Man adaptation by Madhouse is meant to be a reinterpretation of the origin story. Initial reviews have also started to surface expressing immense dissatisfaction with the 3D animation used for the suit rendering and the 2D animation quality along with the character development and design.
TV Guide scored a first look at the upcoming Green Lantern animated series. Bruce Timm will be the Executive Producer so you know it's going to be good. There will be a panel on Saturday at NYCC from 2:30-3:30 p.m. in Room 1A14. Be sure to check it out if you are attending the convention. Warner Bros. Television is planning on launching a new live-action Wonder Woman television series. Not since the days of when Lynda Carter dawned the familiar Amazon princess' costume has the popular DC Comics female super heroine been portrayed in any kind of live-action form. There have long been rumors of Warner Bros. trying to get a live-action movie going, but nothing ever materialized.
According to THR, Warner Bros. Television is developing a modern-day reboot of the classic DC comic book heroine and is lassoing an unlikely talent to potentially write and produce the superhero project: David E. Kelley, the showrunner behind legal dramas such as “Ally McBeal,” "Boston Legal" and "The Practice."
A new generation of Power Rangers must master the mystical and ancient Samurai Symbols of Power which give them control over the elements of Fire, Water, Sky, Forest, and Earth. Disney XD has released its rollout plans for The Avengers: Earth's Mightest Heroes!, the new animated series from Marvel Animation.
The series will premire on Disney XD on Wednesday, Oct. 20 at 8:30 p.m. (ET/PT).
Beginning Wednesday, Disney XD, DisneyXD.com/Avengers, Marvel.com, MarvelKids.com and Disney XD Mobile will roll out 20 micro-episodes introducing the team's core members. Each five-and-half-minute episode focuses on the back story, allies and nemeses of the heroes before the Avengers were formed.
